Music and Performances by Emma Hynes

May 2020

Music is one of my lifelong and strongest passions. I have performed solo for many years as a singer-songwriter, and have been both the lead singer and a backing vocalist with various band.

It was my solo performances that really came to the fore in 2019. Not only did I enjoy them more than ever as I played in several Dublin venues across the year, new songs were forthcoming.

Upcomings Performances

Given the current situation with COVID-19, there are no forthcoming gigs.

I was booked to perform support to Kevin Casey at his single launch in The Underground Venue, Dublin on 27 March, and was on the bill for the brilliant Rockin Road Festival, Drumcondra, on 24 May 2020, but both gigs were cancelled.

Future performances will appear on my events page when the time comes.

In the meantime, I have been playing a number of covers in lockdown from artists including Elliott Smith, Manic Street Preachers, Supergrass, Amy Winehouse, The Beatles and Super Furry Animals. You can see all of these on my YouTube channel.

Past performances

I started 2020 supporting HAIL THE GHOST in Whelan’s on 31 January following the release of their second album, ARRHYTHMIA. It was a privilege and a joy, and one of those very special nights you don’t forget.

My gigs in 2019 included supporting Brew of Blue Sun in The Workmans Club, Dublin, performing as the featured artist at the Staccato Literary Salon in Toners Pub, Baggot Street, and opening for Native Harrow in The Underground Venue.

As I write stories as well as songs and music, I performed my piece entitled A Lesson in Grief at the Irish Writers Centre’s Takin’ the Mic in October 2019. This event, which took place as part of the Red Line Book Festival, was the first at which I read one of my own stories publicly, and so it was a very special evening for me.

I’ve just completed recording a selection of my own songs at Jam Studios, Kells, Co. Meath. Being immersed in that creative process with Martin who produced, recorded and performed on the tracks, and Andrew who played drums, was a great experience. There is something very special about hearing your own words and music coming to life as the tracks develop. It was amazing, and I Ioved it. Martin really managed to capture and convey what I’d hoped to with these songs, of which I’m so proud, and I can’t wait til they’re winging their way out into the world.

In the meantime, here are a selection of demos of songs I’ve written, as well as a gallery of some of my performances, and videos of my latest gigs at Whelan’s and The Underground Venue…
