“On the 4th of February 2022, a companion will set sail, and I will be alongside it because I dared to try.
A bird will leave the branch on which it has rested for too long, and while the bough will eventually settle, the one in flight will not.
The boat’s dock lines are about to be cast off. The bird is primed. And hope must prevail.”
When I wrote these words, which appear in the promo video for my forthcoming single, Sometimes, little did I realise how relevant or prophetic they would be.
Two hours before I shared it yesterday evening, there was another announcement; almost all COVID-19 restrictions would be lifted in Ireland from 6am today, Saturday 22 January 2022.
There is a tentative joy to Sometimes. A hesitant exhilaration. And I’m sure there are many feeling like this today as we contemplate a freer present, and future, after almost two years of sacrifice to protect one another.
