My 2013 – 2014

With 2014 having drawn to a close, I’d like to look back at some of my achievements since October 2013 when I began my blog.

October 2013 – Shortly after I publish my first post, I join the Coronation Street Blog as a writer and reviewer.

December 2013 – I receive a personal message from actress Julie Hesmondhalgh concerning my Coronation Street episode review entitled Daffodils: “wow Emma, what a lovely review. I felt like u captured what the wonderful Chris Fewtrell was trying to put across. Xx”

April 2014 – I travel to Manchester on behalf of the Coronation Street Blog and take a VIP tour of Coronation Street The Tour before it opens to the public.

April 2014 – I am interviewed live on BBC Radio Tees about Coronation Street The Tour

May 2014 – I am one of a select few writers and journalists invited to attend the Who Killed Tina? press day at ITV in Manchester where I viewed the two episodes culminating in her murder, and met and interviewed Michelle Keegan and Marc Baylis as well as Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn, all on behalf of the Coronation Street Blog.

June 2014 – I join Film Ireland as a contributor.

June 2014 – My review of documentary Pulp: A Film about Life, Death and Supermarkets is featured in the press section of the official website.

September 2014 – I obtain an exclusive interview with Coronation Street actors Mikey North and Ian Puleston-Davies before their Men at Work show at The Mill Theatre, Dundrum in Dublin.

September 2014 – My audience research project Coronation Street: A Survey of Fan Viewership and Engagement, for which I achieved First Class Honours, is chosen to form part of the Fan Studies Network Conference in Regent’s University London, and I travel there to present my findings to nine different panels and receive feedback.

October 2014 – I travel to ITV in Manchester on behalf of the Coronation Street Blog to interview actors Chris Gascoyne, Paula Lane and Wendi Peters.

November 2014 – I achieve First Class Honours for my MA in Film and Television Studies with Dublin City University. My thesis was entitled Remember my Name: Representations of Infamy as an Alternative to Fame in Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad.

November 2014 – I am approached and given an exclusive preview of Comedy Central and Wildseed Comedy’s online sitcom Staff Room. In addition to reviewing the sitcom, I interview actor Brian Capron who stars. I later receive a personal reply from Brian thanking me for my “very generous comments and supportive, eloquent review”.

November 2014 – I travel to Manchester on behalf of the Coronation Street Blog for an exclusive preview of Coronation Street The Tour’s Christmas on the Cobbles.

November 2014 – I am interviewed by invitation on BBC Radio Tees concerning Coronation Street’s Steve McDonald depression storyline.

December 2014 – Star of Wonder is the first piece of fiction I post to my blog.
